A mineral lease can be applied for after the claim holder has done at least $25.00 per hectare of work in the claim area. A mineral lease is required for disposal or sale of minerals or ore with a gross value of more than $100 000 in one year. A survey of the claim must be recorded with the Mining Recorder’s Office before a lease can be granted under the Northwest Territories Mining Regulations. Surveys are carried out by Certified Land Surveyors under the general instructions of the Surveyor General. Attribute definitions:Lease Number: The Sequential unique whole numbers that are automatically generated by the Mineral Information Tenure System (MITS) database and preceded by “NT-”. Owner(s): The name(s) of the owner(s) and the percentage of the ownership in ().Status: The current status of the Lease (Pending, Active, Cancelled etc.)Annual Rent: The rent per annum is $2.50 per hectare for the first 21 years and $5.00 per hectare for the subsequent 21 year renewals of the lease.Issue Date: The issue date is the date is the same as Commencement Date.Commencement Date: The date when the lease takes effect which is the day after the anniversary date of the claim. Signed Date: The date when a lease is signed on behalf of the Minister. Rent Due Date: The date when the rent is next due. Interest will be calculated if the rent is paid after this date.Term Expiry Date: The date when the term of the lease expires.
