Description: This data is used to represent the lines that correspond to transportation features within each community of the Northwest Territories. It provides a base to be used for land management purposes in representing the transportation features within the communities. This data set is not to be used for defining the exact location of transportation features; administrative decisions should be based on legal documents and legal survey plans.
Transportation Lines: This data represents such features as roads (asphalt, gravel, closed, access), sidewalks, curbs, trails, parking lots, railways, runways and airstrips within each community of the Northwest Territories. The dataset is periodically updated on a community-wide scale. To see a current list of the last updates to all of the datasets see http://atlas.lands.gov.nt.ca/website/Atlas_Data_Updates.pdf.

Description: The National Topographic Data Base (NTDB) comprises digital vector data sets that cover the entire Canadian landmass. Geomatics Canada has digitized and structured thousands of topographic maps, creating a complete and uniform product that can be highly useful in a broad range of industries. The NTDB includes features such as watercourses, urban areas, railways, roads, vegetation, and relief. The organizational unit for the NTDB is the National Topographic System (NTS), based on the North American Datum of 1983 (NAD83). Each file (data set) consists of one NTS unit at the 1:50,000 scale. The ground data is depicted through points, lines, and areas. The contour interval for this dataset is 50 feet.

Description: The NRN product is distributed in the form of thirteen provincial or territorial datasets and consists of two linear entities (Road Segment and Ferry Connection Segment) and three punctual entities (Junction, Blocked Passage, Toll Point) with which is associated a series of descriptive attributes such as, among others: First House Number, Last House Number, Street Name Body, Place Name, Functional Road Class, Pavement Status, Number Of Lanes, Structure Type, Route Number, Route Name, Exit Number. The development of the NRN was realized by means of individual meetings and national workshops with interested data providers from the federal, provincial, territorial and municipal governments. In 2005, the NRN edition 2.0 was alternately adopted by members from the Inter-Agency Committee on Geomatics (IACG) and the Canadian Council on Geomatics (CCOG). The NRN content largely conforms to the ISO 14825 from ISO/TC 204.

The primary attribute classification field for this dataset is roadclass. There are 11 possible road values which are: RARTLIN - Arterial - NRN Definition: A major thoroughfare with medium to large traffic capacity.RBRGLIN - Bridge - NRN Definition: A manmade construction that supports a road on a raised structure and serving to span an obstacle, river, another road or railway.RFERLIN - Ferry - NRN Definition: The average route a ferryboat takes when transporting vehicles between two fixed locations on the Road Network.RHPOLIN - Highway Pull Off - NRN Definition: A stretch of road permitting vehicles to come to a stop along a freeway or highway. Scale, service lane, emergency lane, lookout, and rest area.RHWYLIN - Highway - NRN Definition: A high-speed thoroughfare with a combination of controlled access intersections at any grade.RLANLIN - Lane or Alley - NRN Definition: A low-speed thoroughfare dedicated to provide access to the rear of properties.RRESLIN - Resource Road - NRN Definition: A narrow passage whose primary function is to provide access for resource extraction and may also have served in providing public access to the backcountry.RRMPLIN - Ramp - NRN Definition: A system of interconnecting roadways providing for the controlled movement between two or more roadways.RSTRLIN - Street - NRN Definition: A low-speed thoroughfare dedicated to provide full access to the front of properties.RTRLLIN - Trail - Non NRN definition: A narrow route not suitable for an automobile but suitable for an ATV or walking.RWINLIN - Winter - NRN Definition: A road that is only useable during the winter when conditions allow for passage over lakes, rivers, and wetlands.
