Description: This range of Snowy Owl (Bubo scandiacus)was developed by GNWT Environment and Climage Change HQ (Joanna Wilson and Tejumade Ojo) in December 2025, following the COSEWIC assessment of the species in 2025but prior to the publication of COSEWIC's status report. The NWT portion of the range includes all ecoregions where Snowy Owlwas designated as "localized" or "presence expected" or "sparse" in the ecoregion-based range mapping (EBAR)available in the Biodiversity Species Distribution layer (GNWT ENR 2014) on the NWT Species and Habitat Viewer; the EBAR is based on Level IVecoregions in the NWT Ecological Land Classification, The resulting NWT range covers the entire extent of the NWT. The rest of the continental range (outside the NWT, North America only) follows the range obtained from BirdLife International on November 28, 2025 (BirdLife International and Handbook of the Birds of the World [2025]Bird species distribution maps of the world.
