Description: New feature class structure to capture areas that limit the ability to dispose of the land (surface or subsurface). There are three related feature classes depending on the type/amount and source of restriction. The definitions below should help determine which feature class to use. The shapes in these feature classes are in the process of being QC'd by the withdrawals working group and will be updated when QC is complete. All attribute information in these feature classes come directly from Commissioner's Order (or other legislation). Commissioner's Orders have registration numbers that start with R-, Other numbers in that field may refer to Order in Councils (OIC) from federal government.Withdrawn lands – registered Commissioner's Order where the land is withdrawn from use either/both surface and subsurface, both permanent and temporary where GNWT is prohibited from disposing of the land.Regulated areas – potential restrictions to development/access due to various legislations (multiple government levels) on lands partially or wholly managed by GNWT (ex. territorial parks, migratory bird sanctuaries, Mackenzie bison sanctuary).Conservation areas – complete restriction to development/access but not through Commissioner's Order, instead with some other form of legislation/agreement (multiple government levels) for the purpose of protection or conservation (ex. land use plan protected areas, marine protected areas) on lands partially or wholly managed by GNWT.

Description: This data is used to represent the boundaries of land defining communities that have been declared as a Settlement under the Settlements Act or incorporated under the Charter Communities Act, the Cities, Towns and Villages Act, the Hamlets Act or the Settlements Act. This data set is not to be used for defining the exact location of the boundaries; administrative decisions should be based on legal documents and legal survey plans.
Community Boundaries: This data represents the defined boundaries of geographic areas within which each community can realistically and regularly enforce its authority over all matters within its jurisdiction. The community boundary reflects a sense of common association whereby people within that boundary relate to the locality as a centre for services. The boundary is of such a size and scope as to allow the community government the capability to meet reasonable service demands for municipal services to be delivered in a cost-effective manner to all community residents. The dataset is periodically updated on a community-wide scale. To see a current list of the last updates to all of the MACA datasets see http://gis.maca.gov.nt.ca/website/Atlas_Data_Updates.pdf.

Description: The SLUP adopted by the Board on April 29, 2013 was sequentially approved by the Sahtu Secretariat Incorporated, Government of the Northwest Territories, and Government of Canada in accordance to Section 43 of the Mackenzie Valley Resource Management Act (MVRMA). It became effective on August 8, 2013,with the final approval of the Minister of AANDC. This data is available for GNWT use only, however data is available on the Sahtu Land Use Planning Board website (Website: www.sahtulanduseplan.org)More information on the Sahtu Land Use Plan can be found:http://www.sahtulanduseplan.org/website/web-content/index.htmlThe following Zones have been identified in the Land Use Plan:General Use Zones (GUZs) Most types of land use are allowed except bulk water removal (taking very large quantities of water to use somewhere else).Approximately 31% of the area. These are the main areas for development.Special Management Zones (SMZs) Most types of land use are allowed except bulk water removal. In these areas, communities want to protect water, wildlife, and cultural values but still want development. Approximately 42% of the area. Special rules exist to make sure that development does not hurt those values.Conservation Zones (CZs) These are very important areas for communities. The following types of development are not allowed: mining, oil and gas, forestry, power development, quarrying (taking sand, rock and gravel) and bulk water removal. Approximately 4% of the areaProposed Conservation Initiatives (PCIs) These are areas that communities are working with the NWT Protected Areas Strategy or Government to protect permanently. The Plan protects them like Conservation Zones (no development allowed) until they are completed. Approximately 20% of the area. The following major attributes are foundZone Type CZ, GUZ, PCI, SMZ, N_PARK, COMM

Description: Tlicho Land Use Plan approved April 25, 2013 and comes into effect June 1, 2013.Norm Mair (GIS Specialist/NWTCG) - September 11, 2013 - Received this data from Sjoerd van der Wielen/GIS Technician/Tlicho Government. http://www.tlicho.ca/news/press-release-t%C5%82%C4%AFch%C7%AB-land-use-plan-effect-june-1-2013On Thursday, April 25, 2013, the Tłı̨chǫGovernment approved the Tłı̨chǫLands Protection Amendment Law 2013 and the Tłı̨chǫLand Use Plan Law, which brings into effect the Tłı̨chǫWene’ke or Tłı̨chǫLand Use Plan. “The Tłı̨chǫLand Use Plan is a significant accomplishment for the Tłı̨chǫGovernment as it has been a work in progress for seven years” said Grand Chief Eddie Erasmus. “This Tłı̨chǫLand Use Plan represents the Tłı̨chǫvision for use of our lands that protects the land while recognizing that opportunities may be out there for land use proposals.”Plan development was guided by the Tłı̨chǫelders who considered their knowledge of the land of the past and present to determine how Tłı̨chǫlands would look in the future. The Tłı̨chǫLand Use Plan will come into effect on June 1, 2013. At that time the moratorium on Tłı̨chǫLands will be lifted and Tłı̨chǫwill start considering proposals and applications for uses on Tłı̨chǫLands.
